In a bid to enhance the protection of lives and property, the Nigerian Police Force has established a Gender Desk Office across the nation.

The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, CP Asuquo Amba made this known, during the inauguration of the State Office in Yenagoa on July 21, 2017.

The Commissioner noted that the office is saddled with the responsibility of fighting sexual and gender based violence in society. Adding that cases brought to the office would be handled with utmost concern to ensure that justice prevails.

While donating some gift items at the occasion, the coordinator of Goldcoast Foundation Miss. Adeola Hannah Oyeleye lauded the Nigerian Police Force for the initiative. She noted that while the menace of gender based violence is on the increase in Nigeria, humanity is to blame for it.

Miss Adeola urged perpetrators of these heinous crimes to refrain, as it causes psychological trauma and stigmatization. She therefore called on other organizations to join in the fight against sexual and gender- based violence in society.
