Thank you our indefatigable Chairman and my dearest colleagues present here; but first of all, I give thanks to the almighty for allowing us to be present here today, alive and well.
Ever since I resumed here in this prestigious organization, I have been haunted by the Gold Coast Foundation’s Creed: “THAT BY GIVING PEOPLE THE TOOLS THROUGH EDUCATION TO LEAD HEALTHY, PRODUCTIVE LIVES, WE CAN HELP THEM LIFT THEMSELVES OUT OF POVERTY” It took me a while to come to terms with the fact that fate has bestowed on me an enormous responsibility to put smiles on the faces of promising and yet unfulfilled people especially young women in this state.
If the girl child doesn’t go to school, what do you think will happen to her? If the nation does not provide education, what do you think will happen to us? And if the sick ones among us are not taken care of, how will the society survive? The answer is very clear and full of fact that all of us are very important: without a girl child, the boy child can never take birth in this world. Then why people do lots of violence against women and girl child? Why people rape or sexually harass the girls at home, public place, schools or work place? Why would a girl be attacked by the acid and why would a girl child become victim of various men cruelty? Why would they be denied access to education?
As we ponder on this, I make bold to say nobody chose to be born the way he/she is and we are what we make our world to be! I therefore state today that this mission to save not just the girl child but also other vulnerable members of the society is a mission I have come to actualize. During my stint as the Gold Coast Foundation Coordinator, children especially the girl child will return to school, quality and attainable health care shall be our watch world. We shall attract local and international donors to help in our fight to give people the desired tools through education and healthy living in order to make them productive to themselves and the society in general.
Let us all join hands and take Gold Coast Foundation to the greatest heights. I will conclude with the words of “Don’t Be Cold, Girls Are worth More Than Gold”.
