World Health Day is marked on April 7 of every year to celebrate the founding of the World
Health Organization (WHO). It is a day set aside to create a global health awareness on a
subject of major health importance. It also creates an opportunity for a global sensitization
on a particular health problem or issue that requires special attention. Just like every other
year since its inception in 1950, the year 2021 is not an exception. With the theme “Together
for a fairer, healthier world”, WHO calls for urgent action to eliminate health inequities and
mobilize action to attain better health for all and leave no one behind.
It is on this background that the Goldcoast Developmental Foundation joined the rest of the
world to organized a sensitization outreach on healthy living. The event was marked with road
walk where flyers inscribed with health messages and quotes were distributed.
"Health is a fundamental human right. Every person deserves to live a healthy life regardless
of their age, gender, ethnicity, disability, economic situation or employment. Progress in
tackling health disparities has been slow worldwide, including in the Region in which many
countries are experiencing emergencies and conflict and we have the largest number of displaced
people in the world," said Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari, WHO, Regional Director for the Eastern
Mediterranean.
