16 DAYS GENDER ACTIVISM PROGRAM ENDS WITH SENSITIZATION

As the 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence comes to a close, all partner NGOs including with FIDA Bayelsa kicked off a sensitization Outreach in Central Epie Secondary School, one of the Public Secondary Schools in Bayelsa State.
The Sensitization was on Preventive measures against Sexual Offences.
The need for the sensitization in school was also triggered by the fact that there is an increase in sexual defilement of school Children especially the girl Child. These perpetrators are not only found in schools but also on solitary roads and in various homes.
The Students regardless of their gender were encouraged to speak up whenever anyone tries to take advantage of them Sexually.
This has become imperative because available statistics indicates that So many young ones are scared of speaking up because either their perpetrators have threatened them or they probably do not have someone to confidently talk to.
As parents, guardians and responsible adults, the young ones around should be able to have a shoulder they can always lean and confide on. Our Foundation having established partnership with international Federation of Women lawyers, FIDA Bayelsa State Chapter and Triax Solicitors, deemed it pertinent enough to hold campaigns in a bid to reduce and prevent sexual violence, abuse and violation of the girl Child hence we started the #ProtectTheGirlChild campaign two years ago which has recorded tremendous successes.
As an organization, part of our focus area is ensuring that the rights of the vunerable especially the women and the girl child are protected.
