International Women's Day 2021

International Women’s Day (IWD), is celebrated each year on March 8. It throws the spotlight on women and their rights. It is “a global day which celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality,” according to the official IWD website.
The theme of 2021 is #Choosetochallenge. “We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Together, we can all help create an inclusive world. From challenge comes change, so let’s all choose to challenge.
Goldcoast Developmental Foundation advocates and support initiatives for inclusion of women and girls in community governance and peace development.
Although the international women's day is recognized and marked every 8th of march. however, one can choose to celebrate it any other day in the month of march. This was the reason behind the celebration of the women's day by the Bayelsa state ministry of women, children affairs, empowerment and social development in collaboration with the office of the first lady of Bayelsa state , Dr. Mrs. Gloria Diri.
Goldcoast Developmental foundation and other NGOs and Civil societies where there to grace the occasion.
The Deputy governor of the Bayelsa state, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo who was one of the key speakers at the ceremony buttressed on the fact that women should not be intimidated by the environment they find themselves, stating that women can do whatever they aspire to do. He further stated that if a woman is focused and brave the sky is her limit. He added that parents should create the impression that their girl child is not inferior and that they can occupy any position.
His statement is in line with the core value of Goldcoast, which also advocates and support initiatives for inclusion of women and girls in community governance and peace development.
It should be recalled that Goldcoast Developmental Foundation in partnership with Niger Delta Connect went to the Tombia market in Yenagoa on the 8th of this month to mark this day with the market women.
